Amazon WorkSpaces announced support for nested virtualization on Amazon WorkSpaces Personal and Core Managed Bundles, allowing developers to run hypervisor-dependent tools and emulators directly inside virtual desktops.

Key Details

• Enables running Docker Desktop, Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2), KVM-based workloads, Android emulators, and nested containers directly on WorkSpaces
• Supported on license-included, BYOL, and BYOP bundles running Windows Server, Windows 11, Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Rocky Linux with the DCV protocol
• Requires Power (4 vCPU) or higher bundles recommended, with configuration manageable via AWS Management Console, API, or CLI
• Available across AWS Regions where Amazon WorkSpaces is supported, excluding China (Ningxia) and Israel (Tel Aviv) regions
